The moving bed technology is based on biomass growth in plastic supports moving inside the biological reactor by the agitation generated by aeration systems (aerobic reactors) or by mechanical stirring systems (in anoxic or anaerobic reactors). The supports are made of plastic material with density close to 1 gr/cm3; this allows them to move easily in the reactor even with filling percentages of 70%.
The biofilm that is formed on the filling walls is more effective than the biological flocculants, which makes the moving bed reactors be smaller in volume than the active sludge. The growth of the biofilm on the support causes the inner layers to enter into anaerobiosis making part of it to peel; this means that required biofilm formation is automatically generated according to the load.
The solids or sludge detached from the support are removed from the system by purging them, not requiring any reactor recirculation. This simplifies the plant operation since the extraction of sludge from the reactor is automatic.
The solution proposed by Bidatek offers the innovation of having a complete biological treatment inside containerized structures with most of the mechanical and / or electromechanical equipment necessary for its operation. These containerized sewage treatment plants are suitable for wastewater treatment of populations of up to 1,200 equivalent-inhabitants (Model BDTK-C-1200) or analogous volumes of industrial wastewater with similar pollution loads. These plants can be combined in parallel to increase the population to be served.
